2014 marks the tenth anniversary of the partnership between Panerai and Classical Sailing. Panerai’s passion for the ocean, the beauty and the history behind each sailing boat has made the Panerai Classic Sailing Challenge the premier international competition for classic and classic sailing. Becoming a sponsor of the Classic Sailing Challenge 10th Anniversary demonstrates Panerai’s determination to promote and inherit this extraordinary maritime cultural tradition and heritage. The essence of this traditional activity is reflected in every magnificent ‘Sea Lady’. Their magnificent figures have captivated the audience who have been fortunate to witness the exciting events of the past century.
The 10th Panerai Classic Sailing Challenge will uphold this passionate celebration spirit and become the most colorful event ever. The schedule for the first time has increased to 11 international stages, most of which are on the Mediterranean Tour, including the Italian, French and Spanish waterways; and the North American Tour in New England. This year’s season begins in April as traditionally, headed by the 27th Antigua Classic Sailing Boat, which is performed on the Caribbean Sea. The participating teams will move to Coates, Isle of Wight in July to challenge the Panerai British Classic Week Championship. The entire season will end in Cannes at the end of September. Thousands of sailing enthusiasts and more than a hundred classic and classic sailing boats are eagerly looking forward to this year’s Panerai Classic Sailing Challenge. They are gearing up for the 2013 champions, including the Mediterranean Tour champion Cambria (big boat group), Leonore (Classic Sailing Group) and Il Moro di Venezia (Classic Sailing Group), and North American Tour Leader Black Watch-Next Book.
Among the sailing yachts of the 2014 season, high-profile sailing superstars include the Bermuda Brig, which was built in 1936 and acquired and restored by Panerai. She will participate in the Mediterranean Tour as the Panerai brand ambassador. The 2014 schedule includes six Mediterranean events, three North American events, and two unique seaports in the classical sailing world: Antigua and Cowes, the birthplace of the America’s Cup.
50 limited editions to celebrate ten years of ocean events
Panerai has designed several limited edition watches for the Panerai Classic Sailing Challenge in the past years, paying tribute to the deep relationship between the brand and the ocean. Coinciding with the important tenth anniversary of this year’s event, Panerai launched a new model of the watch Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio 3 day dynamic titanium automatic watch, limited edition of 50 pieces worldwide, engraved on the case back ’10 Years of Passion’ Sign. The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio is a classic 47mm Panerai case with specifications that meet the needs of the Italian Navy Special Forces watch. It is particularly rugged, reliable, and clearly legible under the water. The case is made of hypoallergenic frosted titanium, which is sturdy, lightweight and has excellent corrosion resistance. The screw-down case back and crown bridge of the case make the watch waterproof up to 30 bar (about 300 meters), and the watch frame can be rotated counterclockwise to allow the wearer to calculate the dive time. The black dial features a small seconds counter at nine o’clock and the date display window at the classic three o’clock position. The semi-hollow luminous hands can clearly tell the time even in the deep sea.
The Luminor Submersible 1950 3 Days Automatic Titanio is equipped with a Panerai P.9000 self-winding mechanical movement, which is powered by two-way rotation of two barrels, ensuring a power reserve of 3 days. The watch also has a special system built in. The hour hand can move forward and backward in one-hour increments. Adjusting the hour hand does not affect the minute hand timing.
