The TimeWalker series of watches launched in 2004 has injected new blood into Montblanc’s watch design. Tough modern architectural lines, a 43 mm diameter case, a slim bezel and exquisite cutout lugs, with iconic Arabic numerals and a large dial, make the new Timewalker watch always in its development Known for its strong sportiness and tough design style, it has become one of Montblanc’s most successful watch collections. Today, Montblanc unveils a whole new decade in the development of this iconic series with the Timewalker DLC chronograph.
The color of the diamond-like carbon coating is described as ‘Black4’, which means ‘very black.’ In industrial production, it is almost impossible to produce black tones that are darker than Black4. DLC (Diamond-likeCarbon acronym) refers to the coating of a diamond-like film on the surface of the stainless steel case to maximize the hardness of the steel. The steel is stamped with extremely tiny glass balls under high pressure, giving it a unique micro-texture and forming a smooth and delicate protective film. This process is also applied to other parts of this watch, including the easy-to-hold crown, chronograph function button, case bottom and buckle. Among them, the sapphire crystal glass inlaid on the bottom of the case makes the Calibre MB4810 / 507 automatic movement. This movement with integrated chronograph function is built using traditional Swiss watchmaking technology. It has a vibration frequency of 28,800 times per hour (4 Hz), so the chronograph second hand has a 1/8 second chronograph accuracy.
Unique black background
The DLC process is also reflected in the dial of this chronograph watch, and the dial is used to make the total sundial craft decoration. Different function display areas on the dial have different levels: the central area of the dial is decorated with a delicately processed ring pattern; the second scale on the outer edge of the dial is marked every 1/4 second to correspond to the 4 Hz frequency of the movement; The three sub-dials are located at 6, 9 and 12 o’clock, and are used for 12-hour timekeeping, small seconds and 30-minute timekeeping. The Montblanc brand logo is located at 3 o’clock on the dial. This design is different from the sub dial design of the timewalker chronograph ‘Tricompax’-located at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock respectively. The large hour-marker circle is slightly higher than the central bezel, covered with a high-gloss luminous coating, and matched with a clear patent-printed hour-marker. The non-interrupted dial display design results in the best reading and identification of the timekeeping function. The dark gray ruthenium-plated hands contrast with the black dial, and the end of the central chronograph second hand is decorated with red dots. The calendar window is located at 4:30 on the dial and is clearly displayed with a black background and white Arabic numerals.
Montblanc has always adhered to the traditional Swiss watchmaking technology, and has not stopped exploring innovative technologies and concepts. This belief is fully reflected in Montblanc’s watchmaking technology and material applications.
The black strap of the Timewalker DLC chronograph not only highlights the elegant sporty atmosphere, but also its manufacturing process and material application are also impressive. The inner layer of the strap is made of high-tech vulcanized rubber to ensure the best durability and ductility. Tonal calfskin is tightly stitched with rubber stitching. This innovative, high-performance material has a special shielding effect that effectively protects the cortex from abrasion and water erosion, and has better structural strength. This material is also used in other Montblanc products, and its outstanding performance is best proven. From another perspective, Montblanc’s focus on watches goes far beyond the movement level. The high-tech strap of the Timewalker DLC chronograph is fixed with a black DLC-coated steel buckle to achieve the best wearing stability and comfort.
The new Montblanc TimeWalker DLC chronograph will be officially launched in the fall of 2014.
